Acoustic Treatment for a Sofia Office — Wood Diffusers & Fabric Panels

The Solution: Absorption + Diffusion

We combined two types of treatment on the main wall. The fabric-wrapped panels — charcoal, dark grey, and lime green — handle absorption, pulling mid and high frequency reflections out of the room. The CNC-cut wooden diffusers in oiled walnut scatter rather than absorb sound, breaking up flutter echo without deadening the room completely.

The mix matters. A room treated with absorption only can feel unnaturally quiet and fatiguing to work in. Diffusion keeps the space feeling alive while still controlling the acoustics.

The Layout

The panels are arranged in a deliberate diamond composition rather than a uniform grid. This serves two purposes: it distributes treatment across different heights on the wall, hitting both seated and standing ear levels, and it creates a visual focal point that anchors the room rather than disappearing into the background.

The lime green panels pick up the colour of the office chairs — a small detail that ties the installation into the existing interior rather than looking like an afterthought.

The Panels

The wooden diffusers are CNC-machined in our workshop with a diagonal slot pattern. The fabric panels are produced in collaboration with our partner, using high-density acoustic foam wrapped in commercial-grade fabric available in a wide range of colours. Both panel types mount directly to the wall with no visible fixings.
